About
The Content Creation Lab is a youth-powered media studio launching Spring 2026 at Illinois Public Media. Designed for local high school students, the Lab provides a hands-on, creative space where teens learn to tell meaningful stories through podcasting, audio production, video, documentary, and social media storytelling. Based in Illinois Public Media’s professional podcast studios, students gain real-world experience recording, editing, and publishing their own projects while building media literacy and critical thinking skills. Each semester blends guided workshops with studio time, creative challenges, and collaborative projects that encourage students to explore issues they care about and connect with their community. The Lab is more than a workshop—it’s a supportive creative community grounded in collaboration, inclusion, and empowerment. Students develop confidence, leadership, teamwork, and communication skills while discovering how media shapes communities and democracy. A partnership between the Department of Media and Cinema Studies at the University of Illinois, the College of Media, the Illinois Community Media Project, and Illinois Public Media, the Content Creation Lab reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to youth media education. No experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to create.
